N(이)가 되다 is one of the most common Korean grammar patterns — and
one that many learners find confusing at first!

1. The Core Formula: Keep It Simple!
The grammar pattern N(이)가 되다 is used when a person or thing changes into a
new state, identity, or status.

Choose “N이 되다” or “N가 되다” depending on whether the noun has a final
consonant (받침).
Final Consonant (받침) | Grammar Pattern | Example |
Yes (받침 O) | Noun + 이 되다 | 선생님 + 이 되다 → 선생님이 되다 |
No (받침 X) | Noun + 가 되다 | 의사 + 가 되다 → 의사가 되다 |
